The Phantom of the Opera is a Broadway musical that focuses on a beautiful singer, who becomes the obsession of a mysterious, disfigured musical genius known as “The Phantom of the Opera,” who terrorizes the Paris Opera.

The musical is by Andrews Lloyd Webber, based on the novel by French novelist Gaston Leroux. The music was composed by Webber, with lyrics by Charles Hart and additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe.

The Phantom of the Opera has been translated into several languages and produced in over twenty countries on six continents. Countries including, but not all named, Canada, Austria, Brazil, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Taiwan, Spain, and New Zealand. Literally, it is a musical that has spanned the world with its beauty and outstanding performances. With worldwide gross of US $3.3 billion, and an attendance of 80 million, it is the highest-grossing entertainment event of all time.

The New York production alone has played to an attendance of eleven million people and grossed US $600 million, making it the most financially successful Broadway show in history.

The Phantom of the Opera is a music sensation. The Broadway musical has a large orchestra, consisting of 26 musicians. The show uses 17 instruments and multiple percussion instruments with the majority being string, with large woodwind and brass sections. Synthesizers are used as well. Songs from the musical include such popular classics as ‘The Music of the Night’, ‘All I Ask of You’, and ‘Angel of Music’.
