The Lion King
The Lion King, directed by Julie Taymor, is a Broadway stage musical based on the 1994 Disney animated film of the same name. The Lion King brings the beauty of African wildlife to the stage when it debuted in July, 1997 in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the Orpheum Theatre. It was an instant success, and then later was moved to the New Amsterdam Theater on Broadway in New York, New York.
The Lion King received the 1998 Tony Award for Best Musical, Best Scenic Design, Best Costume Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Choreography, and Best Direction of a Musical.

The Lion King proves to be a remarkable adventure from the very start. It depicts the story of a young lion cub growing up in the African jungle, who struggles with what is expected of him and it takes us through his journey of growing up to take the place of his father as the King. The set is stunning, the songs are classic, and the performance is brilliant.
The performance runs approximately 2 hours 45 minutes which includes a 20 minute interval. As a guideline, The Lion King is recommended for children aged 7 and over.
